Ethics & Sustainability
At Sun Baby, we believe protecting your baby shouldn’t come at the cost of harming the planet, or the people who help bring our products to life. That’s why every decision we make, from fibre to fabric to factory, is grounded in ethics and sustainability.
Why Bamboo?
Our clothing is made from a premium blend of 95% bamboo, one of the most eco-friendly fibres on the planet.
Carbon Negative
Bamboo captures around 12 tonnes of CO2 per hectare annually, which is approximately 30% more than timber forests [IPCC 2025].
Biodegradable & Non-toxic
Our bamboo is compostable in 180 days and boasts 0% pesticides or heavy metals, so better for baby's skin and the planet.
Rapidly Renewable
Bamboo forest regrow to harvest height in 3-5 years (vs. 10-30 years for trees)
Moisture-Wicking & Breathability
Bamboo absorbs moisture ~3x faster than cotton, and releases moisture ~50% quicker, keeping skin dry. Natural micro-gaps in the fabric enhances airflow.
Naturally Antibacterial
Bamboo Kun (a natural bio-agent found in the bamboo plant) inhibits 99.8% of S.aureus & E.coli and lasts for 50+ washes.
Our Manufacturing
Our clothing is sewn by an ethical manufacturing partner in China, hand-picked for their commitment to fair working conditions and transparent practices. We chose this partner after extensive research, because they share our values of slow, intentional production, fair wages and safe working conditions, no mass production or high-pressure quotas.
Our manufacturing partner proudly holds certifications for;
✔ BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative)
✔ OEKO-TEX
While our business is proudly based in Canberra, partnering with this skilled team allows us to access sustainable textile technology that’s not currently available in Australia, without compromising on ethics.
Low Impact, High Purpose
We keep our packaging minimal and recycled/recyclable, and design our pieces to last longer, both in quality and style. Fewer, better pieces that serve your baby well and tread more lightly on the earth. Sun Baby isn’t just about what your child wears, it’s about how it’s made, who made it, and the future we’re all a part of building.
