Created by a Mum, Made for Yours

We believe babywear should be as safe and simple as possible.

Sun Baby was born in Canberra, created by a new mum who couldn't find baby clothing that was both sun-smart and free from added UV coatings, so she designed it herself.

Each piece is made from a buttery-soft blend of 95% bamboo viscose and 5% spandex; independently certified UPF 50+, breathable, and gentle on delicate skin, even on Australia's hottest days. Our fabric is also OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I certified, meaning it has been tested to the highest standard to ensure there are no harmful substances anywhere near our bubs. Every design offers extra coverage for necks, hands, and feet, with sizes ranging from 000 to size 1 (newborn to 18 months).

Sun Baby was born out of necessity. When I welcomed my first baby, I found it nearly impossible to protect her from the sun. Whether in the pram, strapped into a carrier, or wriggling through tummy time, the battle against sun exposure was constant. Products like pram covers, umbrellas, and layering long sleeves never quite worked, either my baby was exposed or dangerously overheated.

The deeper I researched, the clearer it became: most baby clothes don't provide adequate UV protection, even when they fully cover the skin. And while some garments rely on added UV finishes to achieve higher protection, we wanted a fabric that was independently tested to UPF 50+ without added chemical coatings, while remaining incredibly soft and comfortable for babies.

So, Sun Baby set out to create something better. With the support of the ACT Social Enterprise Grant Program, I spent months researching, testing, and refining every detail.

We found the perfect fabric: a premium 95% bamboo viscose blend that delivers certified UPF 50+ protection, exceptional softness, and all-day comfort. Then came the thoughtfully designed cuts, high necklines, longer sleeves, and protective socks that cover tiny hands and feet without restricting movement.

And just like that, Sun Baby was born.

Not from a business plan, but from a mother's desire to help protect her child while making sun safety simpler for every family.

Today, we're proud to be a social enterprise, donating 10% of our profits to food banks across Australia. Every piece is designed in Canberra, ethically made, and created with sustainability and quality at its core.
